An event held to honour Wales’ rugby legend Alun-Wyn Jones was held in Cardiff’s City Hall on Thursday (15 February) as part of a series of events to mark the Welsh captain’s testimonial year.
With the Six Nations tournament in full swing, famous faces from the world of rugby union gathered in the capital to celebrate the massive contribution Jones has made to Welsh and international rugby.
A three course dinner was held in City Hall, where stars including former Wales and Ospreys wing Shane Williams, former England lock Simon Shaw and Australia’s James Horwill were in attendance to celebrate the occasion. The evening was the fourth of five events being held for Jones’ testimonial year.
The event was also attended by a number of Wales’ current players, with Leigh Halfpenny bidding in the silent auction for the Dan Biggar kicking masterclass.
Jones’ testimonial year launched in July 2017 with an event at Godi Financial’s corporate suite at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium. The Ospreys and Welsh Rugby Union granted Jones a testimonial year following a request from the Ospreys Supporters Trust.
