Cardiff’s Principality Stadium – the home of Welsh rugby – played host to stars and fans of rugby union last week (22 November) as they gathered to mark rugby legend Alun Wyn Jones’ testimonial year.
An intimate dinner, hosted by former Welsh international number 8, Scott Quinnell, was held in the home dressing room at the Principality Stadium, as part of a series of events to pay tribute to Jones’ contribution to the world of rugby.
The current Wales and Ospreys captain was joined by rugby stars including Steve Hansen, Kieran Read and Rhys Priestland in the home dressing room, which was full of atmosphere ahead of Wales taking on the All Blacks over the weekend (25 November) as part of the autumn internationals.
Jones’ testimonial year kicked off during July with a launch event at Godi Financial’s corporate suite at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium. The Ospreys and Welsh Rugby Union granted Jones a testimonial year following a request from the Ospreys Supporters Trust.
Godi Financial has a strong connection with Welsh sport. As well as supporting Alun Wyn Jones’ testimonial year, the company sponsors Ospreys rugby club and has a long-established partnership with Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, Swansea Stadium Management Company and Swansea City Football Club.
Paul Langley, managing director of Godi Financial, said:
“It is an honour to be supporting these events for such an admired rugby legend as Alun Wyn Jones. An event in the Welsh squad’s changing room really made the occasion special and added to this unique time of celebration for Alun and his loved ones.
“Godi has a vast range of experience working with professionals from the sporting world and the wider industry, so being associated with Alun’s testimonial year through our sponsorship means a great deal to the firm. With the autumn internationals currently underway and the Six Nations not far away, I have no doubt that Alun and his immense achievements will continue to be well celebrated through his testimonial year and beyond.”
Another dinner event in the home dressing room of the Welsh squad will be held on 31 January 2018 to continue a series of events taking place to celebrate Jones’ testimonial year. With the event being held just days ahead of the start of the 2018 Six Nations championships – where the competition will kick off with Wales hosting Scotland on 3 February – it will be yet another special event for the star of Welsh rugby.
