Stars from the sporting world gathered at The Brewery in Chiswell Street, London last night, as the first major event of Welsh rugby legend Alun Wyn Jones’ testimonial year took place, thanks to support from key sponsor, Godi Financial, and additional sponsors Sony, Swansea University and RNA Plant.
The event was hosted by English pundit and former rugby player, David Flatman, with special guests including Ryan Jones, Jamie Roberts, James Haskell, Ken Owens, Kyle Sinckler, Jon Davies, Adam Jones and Huw Bennett, along with many other famous faces from the world of rugby union.
An auction was also held at the event, run by actor, broadcaster and former rugby player, Martin Bayfield. The auction helped raise funds for Swansea-based Forget Me Not Dementia Day Clubs and Golau Cancer Foundation, which are the official charities of the testimonial year and causes that are very close to Jones and his family’s hearts.
July saw the launch of Jones’ testimonial year at Godi’s corporate suite at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium. Jones was requested a testimonial year from the Ospreys Supporters Trust and this was granted by both the Ospreys and Welsh Rugby Union.
Godi is Wales’ first foreign exchange (FX) company and has a long history and connection with Welsh sport. As well as supporting Alun Wyn Jones’ testimonial year, the company sponsors Ospreys rugby club and has a long-established partnership with Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, Swansea Stadium Management Company and Swansea City Football Club.
Paul Langley, managing director of Godi Financial, commented:
“Last night’s event was fantastic and marked the start of what will be a memorable testimonial year for such a world class player as Alun Wyn Jones. We have extensive experience of working with sporting professionals and the wider industry, and so we’re proud to be sponsoring Alun’s testimonial year. We look forward to the additional events ahead as we continue to celebrate the many great achievements of this world renowned rugby star.”
The next event for Jones’ testimonial year will be held on 22 November at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. An intimate dinner hosted by Scott Quinnell will take place in the home dressing room of the Welsh squad.
